Boycott Bar & the Thriving Lesbian Scene in Phoenix

Phoenix may not be the first city that comes to mind when you think of a sapphic nightlife scene, but if you know where to look, you’ll find a thriving, welcoming, and fun-loving community. At the heart of it all is Boycott Bar, one of the few dedicated lesbian bars in the country and a beloved staple of Phoenix’s queer scene.

Boycott Bar: Phoenix’s No-Frills, All-Vibes Lesbian Bar

Located in the vibrant Melrose District [The Gayborhood], Boycott Bar is a place where queer women and nonbinary folks can dance, laugh, and connect without worry. The bar has everything you’d want in a sapphic hotspot—women, lots of sapphic women.

The décor isn’t exactly Instagram-worthy [except for some fun neon signs], and you won’t find craft cocktails with edible flowers. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. With the lights turned down low and a few drinks in you, the imperfections fade into the background, and the bar’s true magic takes over—a space where queer women and nonbinary folks can just be.

The DJs at Boycott know how to keep the night going, spinning a mix of Top 40 pop, old-school rap, and even a little country now and then. Whether you want to belt out some Chappell Roan, drop it low to Missy Elliott, or two-step with a cute stranger, there’s something for everyone. The cozy dance floor means there’s no room for awkwardness—just close-up, sweaty, sapphic fun. OH! And they host numerous theme nights - Uhaul Party [my favorite], Stop Light Party, Prom, Mardi Gras, Boots and Babes, the list goes on.

More Than a Bar—A Community Hub

Not feeling the dance floor? No worries—Boycott Bar has options:
🔥 The Patio – A chill spot to catch some air, chat with friends, or scope out the crowd. Equipped with two fire pits, a few tables, and limited seating.
🎱 The Game Room – Featuring a pool table, this space is perfect for a little friendly competition (or flirting). There's also a gaming console! Mario anyone?

Boycott isn’t just a place to party—it’s a safe space that brings people together. They regularly host events like drag shows, burlesque, bingo, and karaoke, making it easy to meet new friends (or maybe even a date). For many, it’s the first place they’ve felt truly at home in a nightlife setting. Boycott Bar was my first lesbian bar experience, and it really did feel that way for me [late bloomer club].

Finding Your People

Whether you’re new to Phoenix or just starting to explore its sapphic scene, there’s a space for you here. Boycott Bar is an amazing starting point, but the beauty of Phoenix’s LGBTQ+ community is how many ways there are to connect. So, grab a drink, step onto the dance floor, and see where the night takes you—you might just find your people.

I hope you find some strong drinks, good community and some flirty make-outs. 🌈 💖 A

The photo pictured is not Boycott Bar, just a cute design of a sapphic little watering hole I imagined up. But it is the sign! Look for the bright pink glow to guide you to the promise land.
